Music: Galveston - Glen Campbell
Sea Isle is a resort community near the Western end of Galveston island. The Gulf coast is on one side of Sea Isle and Galveston Bay is on the other side. There is a small island in Galveston Bay about a quarter mile from Sea Isle. I call it Ernie's island because Ernie had papers giving him rights to the island. His rights to the island have been terminated. I knew and worked with Ernie at the Kroger warehouse in Houston. He hauled building material out to the island on a boat, and built a small building on the island. There was no vegetation on the island, and birds used the area to lay eggs, hatch them, and raise their young. The surface was warm and lent itself to incubating bird eggs. The island was a little larger than a football field. It was a nice experience to go there, and to get away from civilization.
I remember visiting the island with Ernie, and getting up in the morning to coffee and sausage. Ernie liked a lot of pepper in his sausage, to put it mildly. He'd take a pound of sausage and mix a half pound of black pepper in the sausage. I liked it, and it really was quite tasty.
My family, I, and some friends were on the island, and a boat came up. They informed us that our friend's home in Houston had burned. They had left a fan running in the house, and it caused the house to burn. So much for getting away from civilization.
