Financial Observations

advertisement

Music: Hi-Ho - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

I'm by no means a financial genius, but I do have common sense. I can analyze financial information, and cut through the maize, if there is one. I took accounting in college, but it doesn't apply here.
Here's what we have in a nutshell. We have spenders; I'll leave out the adjectives. Here's proof; " And White House budget forecasters said they now project $9 trillion of additional federal debt over the next decade, adding $2 trillion to an earlier estimate."

We must

  • Get the money from taxes, or
  • Borrow the money, or
  • Print the money
  • This article is concerned mainly with borrowing, and printing money. China owns a chunk of our debt. They are concerned with the current administration, and have made it known. China They are still buying our debt, but nothing says that they can't quit. They can buy someone else's debt. China does not like the practice of the US government printing money. They are being put in harm's way, and I am being put in harm's way; you are also. The Federal government is printing money electronically. Printing presses, paper, and ink are not needed.

I'm not going to go into great detail about the consequences of printing money. Printing money can lead to disaster as history has shown. It is not openly revealed as to how much "printing" is or has taken place. The previous link above does give an indication. All this talk about ruining our grandchildren may be a diversion. They don't want to talk about the disaster, which could be more immediate. Information about "printing money" has been hidden, by law.

Wiemar Republic...Germany. About 1923 they printed money. Marks deteriorated from 4.2 per US dollar to 1 million to US dollar.

GOP Reps. to Fed: Stop printing money

    Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It may be just me, but it seems to me that the masses have been conditioned to think that their children or someone else is going to pay for the excesses of congress.

I only have a few more years to live, and I'm still concerned about a dollar that is worth half what it is now. Food, clothing, shelter, and transportation would cost twice as much. That's not taking into account price increases due to Obama and the Democrats. More specifically, increased health care costs and energy costs under cap and trade.

Don't forget that farms are in danger of going out of business, so food would have to be imported at best. At worst, 1980s Soviet Union food lines here in the United States, perhaps the entire world. That will cause food prices to skyrocket, and unless the government decides to let farmers gain, at least, a mediocre profit instead of maintaining their, current, barely subsistent existence; it will be within the next 5 years maybe next year or two.

tomwcraig...You are an amazing person. You really have a grip on things. You are exactly correct, the food shortages in the former Soviet Union took place in the 1980's. So, people 29 years old probably are unaware that that was the case.

As to farmers, why not give them an incentive to produce, and remove artificial barriers? All this regulation stuff is killing the farmers, and will eventually harm the country.

I would bet on your time line.

This govenment of ours is taking away incentives from all our workers and businessman and women and our farmers. What will America be if this keeps up? Nothing any of us will recognize in comparison to the last 100 years! Do we want to lie down and accept this Soviet scenario, or get up and do something about it right now?

You want to know about the lack of incentives? If so look here, it is an article I wrote in my column. Look at my comments for a break-down on what farmers are really facing, right now. Then, think of the impact of "healthcare reform" and "Cap and Trade." We have not seen the ramifications of everything that Obama is working towards, yet. And, the future, with all or most of his policies in place, scares me deeply.

      Wolf,

I do not think that milk prices are being kept artificially low. I believe what the farmer is paid is kept artificially low. For example, a gallon of whole milk in the store here in Central Pa (about 2 weeks ago) is $3.09, which is about $0.39 per pound. Farmers are only getting $0.13 per pound, and paying for all the shipping and advertising. That's $0.26 of the price of milk not going to farmers and mainly going to paying people to watch conveyors and computers or into pure profit.

Good links, Wolf. Perhaps you should focus a bit more on the Minimum Wage aspect of the first article than on some other points. Because, not only does it get rid of unskilled, entry-level workers; it is used as a weapon by unions to get higher pay for their employees and causes some of them to be laid off as well.

I've taken what little i have in a 401 and put it ALL into precious metals and the rest of our savings we've put into our (little) farm....hyperinflation, food/ammunition shortages, tax increases, etc.....etc....are on the horizon. Our current Administration likes to make a big 'to-do' about this little blip we're seeing on Wall St., but the dark clouds of things to come are just over the horizon....I think we're screwed....lol

I guess they can't be too concerned about debt, they gave all federal employees a 2-2.9% pay raise last month! I can get onboard with the military personnel getting a pay raise but every other position should not have gotten one...

Frank...I don't think they care one iota. Their conscience must atrophy just like being brain dead.

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm preparing. I'm buying certain things in bulk and getting seed. I don't see any good down the road, and I'm going to be as ready as I can be.

Life Travler, I agree, isn't any good going to come from everything that has happened. There is no way 10 generations could stable the debt in the trillions. Heck I can't even find a job to do my own part in paying taxes, how many like me, one in ten. Look around at Wal-mart everyone, count ten people and know that one doesn't have a job and I'm betting it's more than one and more like two.

Heck Wolf, they aren't just printing it, they are electronicly transfering it in denominations that would blow minds.
